The filming location of Samaritan was Atlanta, where the production began in February 2020, paused in March due to COVID-19, and resumed in October 2020.

Although Samaritan received generally positive reviews from critics, it did not win any awards. However, its director Julius Onah was recognized with a nomination for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Directing at the 2021 Saturn Awards.

The movie also had several independent film festivals screenings and won several accolades in smaller categories such as Best Action Film at the 2021 Action on Film International Film Festival.
