The first Hunger Games movie, The Hunger Games, was filmed in different locations across North Carolina. The majority of the filming took place in Henry River Mill Village, an abandoned factory village near Hildebran, North Carolina. 

Other filming locations included DuPont State Forest and Chimney Rock Park. The deserted town of Henning, Tennessee was used to film some of the exterior scenes. Some interior scenes were filmed at EUE/Screen Gems studios in Wilmington, North Carolina. The movie also made use of various other locations across the state such as Charlotte Motor Speedway and Grandfather Mountain.

What was The Hunger Games All About?

The first film adaptation was largely based on Suzanne Collins’ novel The Hunger Games. It is set in the futuristic nation of Panem which is divided into 12 districts. Panem is run by the Capital. The Hunger Games movie franchise was directed by Gary Ross. He is an American filmmaker best known for his work on films such as Pleasantville, Seabiscuit and Free State of Jones. Additionally, he wrote the screenplays for big-budget films like Big and Dave.

Ross brought the stories of Katniss and her allies to life, creating a thrilling cinematic experience for viewers around the world. Ross was able to capture the intensity, drama and emotion of the novels in his films, making The Hunger Games one of the most successful movie franchises in history.
