K-1 Mark II Features

This camera was launched in 2018 and comes with an accelerator unit and a dynamic pixel shift resolution mode. These features improve ISO performance and autofocus algorithms. Although the camera is not massively different from the original, there are useful improvements which still make this a great camera.

The K-1 Mark II has many selling points, amongst these are the powerful Shake Reduction II system, its 36.4MP sensor, and its strong build. It also has all of the original features of the first camera, including a multi-angle screen, weather-sealing body, and compatibility with all Pentax K-mount lenses.

The K-1 Mark II offers excellent value for money, with a price tag under $2000. Although the sensor doesn’t have as high a resolution as some other models, it still offers exceptional image quality for the money.

If you are looking for something that offers more value, have a look at our Canon EOS 2000D Review which is a bit more cost effective for some.

The Shake Reduction system provides anti-aliasing simulation, which goes much further than simply preventing camera shake. The sensor is moved by a tiny amount which gives the effect of an optical low pass filter. These filters are used to blur interference effects or ultra-fine detail with fine textures or patterns. The K-1 Mark II achieves this without the low-pass filter, making fine detail even sharper. With the K-1 Mark II, you can switch to anti-aliasing if moiré is causing issues.

A great feature of this camera is the Astrotracer mode, which is where the camera uses its GPS sensor with the sensor-shift mechanism to render stationary objects in the sky. It can render stars while avoiding any streaking caused by long exposures. This is perfect for taking night-sky photos, removing the requirement for a motorised mount.

The rotating and tilting screen can be moved left to right and up and down, with a gapless design for improved outdoor viewing. If you were to accidentally hold the camera using the screen, the system is strong enough to support the weight of the camera.

Video features

You can take amazing videos using the Pentax K-1 Mark II. With full HD movie recording and up to 25 minutes of film time, you can create great videos. It also features a built-in stereo microphone and custom image and digital filter options.
