Key features of the Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless

Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless

Advanced 45MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and DIGIC X Processor

For the EOS R5, Canon developed an utterly new CMOS image sensor. Their key focus was image quality, and they definitely raised the bar when it comes to high-resolution videos and photos.

You are able to maintain extraordinary clarity and detail even when shooting in low lighting, with an ISO of up to 51,200, which is expandable to 102400.

High-speed shooting

Capture fast-moving subjects using the Canon EOS R5. The DIGIC processor complements the CMOS sensor with speed, allowing you to take sharp images when working with moving subjects.

At up to 20fps with the silent shutter and 12fps with the mechanical shutter, you will be able to capture the smallest details between a subject’s movement.

Impeccable autofocus and subject detection

Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless

The EOS R5 utilises Canon’s dual pixel CMOS autofocus technology bringing subject detection to a whole new level.

This camera makes ultra-high-speed autofocus speed calculations to match with its high-speed shooting capabilities of up to 20 frames per second. When people detection is set, this camera uses face, head, and eye-tracking for more accuracy. This is also the first Canon camera to detect animals.

8K video

When it comes to video, the Canon EOS R5 is once again pushing the limits, giving you the option to record in full-frame 8K video at up to 29.97fps or 4K video at up to 119.9fps in 4.2.2 10-bit Canon log for outstanding slow-motion effects.

The 45 megapixels full-frame sensor gives you impeccable resolution while recording for a cinematic look. At the same time, the Dual Pixel CMOS AF with face and eye detection ensures everything remains crisp and sharp.

In-body image stabilisation

This is Canon’s only camera to integrate 5-axis in-body image stabilisation. IBIS technology makes it easier to shoot stills at slower shutter speeds and reduces camera shakes when recording videos.

EOS R5’s In-body image stabilisation will work together will Optical Image Stabilisation found in a lot of the EF and RF lenses.

Body design

The R5 is slightly heavier than the EOS R and feels more sturdy on the hand. The weight of the camera is well distributed, giving it a well-balanced feel.

It has an OLED screen at the top similar to that of the EOS R. There is a joystick at the back, which has replaced the touch bar, but the AF-ON button has retained its position.

Pros

• Image stabilisation is phenomenal
• Weather sealed
• Great battery life
• Feels great on the hand
• It does not overheat
• Easy to connect to the Canon mobile app
• Video transfer over WIFI is fast

Cons

• Cannot transfer 8K videos through WIFI
• 4K videos longer than 30 seconds take a long time to send
• The joystick is outdated
• It is expensive
